PNG is a raster format, even when its background is transparent. Converting it into a useful vector means rebuilding the design's geometry so the logo can scale without pixelation.
Check transparency and edge quality
A transparent PNG may contain soft antialiased pixels around letters or a faint shadow. Decide which effects are intentional. If the PNG is tiny, share other versions or a printed reference to help resolve ambiguous shapes.
Reconstruct the artwork
Simple marks may trace cleanly, while fine lettering and detailed illustrations need closer human review. A proof should show the same composition as the supplied design unless you requested a change.
Use the right output
Keep a vector master such as SVG or EPS for scaling and editing. Export a PNG at the dimensions required for a website or print workflow. Confirm with your supplier if it has specific format or color requirements.
Do not confuse transparent with editable
A PNG can have a perfectly transparent background while the visible logo remains a grid of pixels. That is useful for placing it over a shirt mockup, but it will not allow a cutter or designer to edit individual curves. If you need scalable paths, ask for a vector master and inspect it in a suitable editor. Keep the PNG too, because many website builders and print portals still prefer a raster upload at a specified size.
What to inspect in the source PNG
- Pixel dimensions and whether the image is already enlarged from a smaller source.
- Fringing or a pale halo around transparent edges.
- Whether interior white areas should remain opaque.
- Small letters whose shapes are unclear at normal zoom.
A PNG-to-vector process is a recreation, not a way to recover the original layers or an unknown font.
Compare artwork in the before-and-after examples before deciding what your own file needs.
Does a transparent PNG count as a vector logo?
No. Transparency describes the background, not the artwork structure. A PNG still contains pixels.
