Artwork for Embroidery: What Vector Redrawing Covers

Artwork for Embroidery: What Vector Redrawing Covers — RedrawLogo guide

Embroidery shops may ask for clean artwork, yet a vector file is not an embroidery stitch file. Understanding that boundary prevents disappointment and helps the shop estimate the separate digitizing work.

Supply a clear logo master

A manual redraw can clarify shapes, lettering, and colors from an old or blurry reference. Tell the redrawer the intended stitch size because tiny letters or narrow gaps may need discussion with the embroidery specialist.

Ask for digitizing separately

An embroidery professional decides stitch types, direction, density, underlay, and machine format. These choices depend on garment, thread, and equipment. They are not created just by exporting SVG or PDF.

Test the sewn result

The same design can behave differently on a cap, polo, or patch. Review a stitched sample with the digitizer and agree on any simplification needed for legibility.

Work backward from the smallest stitch size

A mark that works on a large patch may not be legible on the front of a cap. Tell the digitizer the intended sewn dimensions, fabric, and location before approving tiny type or narrow details. The vector redraw should preserve the agreed identity; the embroiderer can then advise whether a simplified production version is necessary. If a change is requested, compare it with the main logo so the brand remains recognizable.

Questions for the embroidery shop

  • What finished stitch dimensions are planned?
  • Which details become too small to reproduce clearly?
  • What machine file format will the digitizer supply?
  • Will a stitched sample be reviewed before the full order?

Do not treat an SVG, AI, or EPS file as a substitute for a stitch file. Each serves a different stage of production.

Compare artwork in the before-and-after examples before deciding what your own file needs.

Can I upload an SVG directly to an embroidery machine?

Generally, the vector file is artwork for a digitizer to convert into a machine-specific stitch file; verify your provider's workflow.
